Is it easy and safe to use the "red box" to rent movies?

I have been renting from blockbuster for over 15 years. The one I go to has been behind on getting new releases lately. I am planning on going to the red box at the walgreens at my house. Have you ever had a problem using your debit card? I have about 12 dollars left on my regular credit card, should I use that instead. How do you use it?
